Are Throws Useful or Just Decorative?
Throws might be decorative but they are certainly useful as well. Sofa throws and blankets can be used in a variety of ways and not just for your sofa. Decorative throws can even be used as wall hangings, and they certainly offer a great way to freshen up your decor and keep you cosy at the same time.
You might buy a throw because you are drawn to the colour or texture of the fabric and know it would look just perfect draped across the back or arm of the sofa or folded neatly on your favourite chair. But throws and blankets are also perfect for keeping you warm.
Having a nice selection of throws in your living room can easily mean you can turn the heating down a notch, turn it off a little earlier in the evening, or even not have it on at all. It can seem silly to heat the whole house if you’re the only person there, but at the same time it’s nice to stay cosy when you’re curled up on the sofa and a nice warm throw can make all the difference.
Likewise if you are working from home it can be very tempting to turn the heating on during the day, especially if you are sitting and not moving about much. But having a throw to hand can keep you cosy and make you feel more comfortable and relaxed at the same time.
As well as keeping you cosy on chilly evenings sofa throws and blankets are also great for protecting your furniture, especially if you have children or pets. A nice big throw can cover a whole chair or sofa and stop grubby finger marks from staining expensive sofa covers. Using throws also means you have a much easier time cleaning your furniture.
Of course throws do make great decorative items and not just for updating your colour pallet or draping artfully over the back of the sofa. You can also use throws over the end of the bed to add an additional colour and texture to your bedroom, not to mention another layer of warmth.
You can even use decorative throws as wall hangings which are a great way to update your decor in a very cost-effective way. Throws are generally large in size meaning you can add interest and colour to quite large areas of wall for fas less than the price of a large work of art.
As well as keeping you cosy, adding colour to your home, updating your style, decorating your walls and protecting your furniture throws can also be used in a number of other ways making them very versatile items for your home.
Taking a throw outside makes a great picnic blanket, and they also make great shrugs to wrap around your shoulders and keep you cosy outside in the evenings.
Throws also make great door or window coverings, especially if you need an extra layer of insulation in the cooler months.
Depending on the material a throw can also make a good tablecloth or runner for your table.
And a throw can be a perfect play mat and you could even use a few together to represent sea, land, mountains etc.
