How to Wash Your Lunch Cooler Bag?
Probably one of our biggest pet peeves is cleaning dirty lunch bags. We pack our home-cooked meals so we can enjoy healthy lunches at work or we send our children to class every day with their favourite lunch all packed neatly in their food containers. However, no matter how careful we are sometimes the inevitable happens like accidental spills and breaks. Or sometimes we forget to close the lid of our food containers properly and thereís still food inside. Most of the time and depending entirely on the construction of the lunch bag, they can take a beating and abuse. But itís still highly recommended to clean them right away at the end of the day to keep any spoiled food or germs away.
You may be tempted to just toss your smelly and dirty lunch cooler bag straight into your washing machine with no problems. However, this entirely depends on the brand, type and construction of your lunch bag. Some lunch bags are machine washable and can tolerate the agitation of the washing machine but other lunch bags are not made for machine washing and will therefore fall apart at the seams.
It is highly recommended to check the label and care instructions of your lunch bag before doing any cleaning. Generally, lunch bags from popular brands are made from high quality materials and can withstand the tough cleaning of washing machines and can come out clean in good condition. If your lunch bag is machine washable, machine wash in cold water using a gentle detergent and on a gentle cycle.
If your lunch bag is not machine-washable, donít worry because cleaning it is just as easy. Start cleaning your lunch cooler bag by removing any obvious dirt from the outside and inside of the bag. Scrub gently with a sponge or a used toothbrush. Use a mild soap or keep it natural and use something like Castille. For tough stains, we recommend using baking soda. Then wipe with a cloth while spraying your lunch bag with your preferred cleaning solution.
If your lunch bag can be submerged in water, then fill a basin sink with water and add your preferred mild detergent then agitate the mix. Gently scrubs using a scrub brush or if the material of the lunch bag is delicate, use a sponge instead.
To remove any annoying smell, you may want to use a weak bleach solution. Fill your spray bottle with a weak bleach and water solution. Spray your cleaning solution into the bag and wipe with a damp cloth. Make sure to wipe gently and thoroughly. If you want to thoroughly clean your lunch bag, apply a baking soda paste using a damp cloth into the interior surfaces of your bag. You can make a baking soda paste by mixing baking soda with water. Allow the paste to dry completely then wipe clean and dry with a cloth.
Once youíre finished cleaning your lunch cooler bag, leave to dry in the dish rack or air dry on the clothes line.
