Toxin Free Natural Deodorant

We are all conscious of what we put into our bodies and we know that organic foods are much better for us than foods covered in pesticides and chemicals.

Many of us are also conscious that what we put on our skin is also important and that there can be health problems associated with the use of chemicals, especially when they are interfering with how our bodies are meant to work.

Natural Deodorant

Conventional deodorants and antiperspirants work by blocking our sweat glands so that sweat cant be released. As sweating is our bodies way of cooling down and eliminating toxins, it"s a pretty vital function and one that we shouldn't be trying to stop. Regular deodorants are often in spray cans and these need propellants to get the liquid product out. All of these propellants are harming the world around us. They also harm us as we inevitably inhale them as we spray that product.

Make the switch to and let your body behave naturally.

There are natural alternatives to conventional deodorant spray and antiperspirants and we have brought you several brands of that really do work!

Natural deodorant - a step towards a healthier planet

Warrior botanicals deodorant cream is full of organic oils. It is designed to work on odour causing bacteria rather than on blocking your sweat glands to stop sweating.

Blended from natural ingredients like arrowroot powder, essential oils, organic shea butter and baking soda, you can"t get much more organic or natural than this!. Kind to sensitive skin and aluminium free, warrior deodorant is more like skin care for your armpits. It is handmade in small batches to ensure that you get the freshest possible product. All of the ingredients are local and the deodorant is made in Ireland.

Reidin who founded warrior botanicals loves her deodorant cream formulation as it encourages touching your armpits and around your breast tissue. This is important for detecting any changes that may occur and Reidin encourages us to incorporate checking into our daily routine.

For those of you that sweat more, there is the coconut and vanilla option of this cream. Fresh cloves work on dryness and bring their unique antibacterial properties to the cream. Since the particular scent is made without any essential oils the coconut and vanilla deodorant is recommended for use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Lavender and Geranium is an oil scented version that has wonderful moisturising properties. Essential oils are known for their soothing, healing, antibacterial and antifungal benefits. The new Rose deodorant is just lush!. Sweat only has an odour when it gets stale. Warrior is a healthy deodorant with natural ingredients designed to stop the sweat from getting stale and to neutralise the scent of sweat. You can be confident that it works on your body odour and you will be feeling fresh all day.

Fragrance Free Deodorants

There will be some who prefer a fragrance free or less fragranced deodorant, some of you will prefer a roll-on deodorant or deodorant stick. This aluminium-free  deodorant is a unisex formulation. It has a very light scent of coconut. It is suitable as a mens natural deodorant and is also a great starting deodorant for kids and teens as well. The ingredients of this deodorant include natural aloe vera, witch hazel, lavender, chamomile and baking soda.

The baking soda helps to neutralise body odour and although this deodorant isn't an antiperspirant, it definitely reduces the amount of sweat. It keeps you feeling dry without blocking your sweat glands. Roll onto your clean dry skin and it absorbs quickly leaving no residue. You won't be doing the "drying dance" with this roll-on!

Zero Waste Deodorant

Recently we have added the fabulous deodorant sticks from Ben & Anna. The range was developed and perfected by a German couple who follows a strict vegan lifestyle, hence their deodorant sticks aren"t just blended with the finest ingredients mother nature has to offer, but is also suitable for vegans. The seven natural scents and fragrances - Pink Grapefruit, Indian Mandarine, Persian Lime, Vanilla Orchid, Provence, Nordic Timber and Pure - proof that natural and vegan does not equal boring. While the refreshing citrus fruit scents are a very popular deodorant sticks for kids, teens and young adults, the more subtle options are perfect scents for men. Since no essential oils are used for the PURE deodorant stick, it is safe for all those moms-to-be and breastfeeding mothers.

Making the change to Natural Lifestyle Including Deodorant

Making the change to an aluminium free deodorant could not be easier, especially when the natural alternatives are so good.
Below we have written a full guide to moving to natural deodorants and how to 'detox' from the toxins contained in deodorants. The blog is full of tips for a successful transition. You won't be disappointed!

In regards to using natural products instead of conventional ones, deodorant is probably one of the last changes people want to make. That is understandable, in some cases it took years to find a conventional deodorant that works and most of us dread to go through the endless months of trial and error again, which will leave us sweaty, smelly and feeling uncomfortable.

However, there are many reasons, why you should brave an armpit detox followed by the switch to an all-natural deodorant. First of all: your health! Sweating is not only your bodies way of cooling down but also necessary in order to release toxins. Many common antiperspirant deodorants prevent this from happening, which causes a build-up of harmful toxins in your body. Additionally, the aluminium salts, which are commonly used in a lot of conventional deodorants are actually absorbed into your body and are linked to breast cancer and even Alzheimers disease.

Another reason for the switch is the fact that the daily use of many conventional spray or roll-on deodorant, especially antiperspirants can actually change the bacterial microbiome in your armpits. This means that due to an overproduction of some bad bacteria sweat will be a lot smellier whenever you stop or forget to use your deodorant. So if you notice that the smell of our sweat is after getting a lot stronger recently, it is not a reason to apply even more deodorant, but indeed the perfect time for an armpit detox and the switch to a non-toxic organic deodorant full of natural active ingredients. Since a lot of the natural alternatives come in plastic-free packaging you are not just protecting and improving your own health, but also the health of our planet and take another step towards your life without plastic !

Armpit Detox & transition to Natural Deodorant in 3 easy steps

1. Perfect timing

I won't lie. Depending on the deodorant you have been using all along and on the amount you have been applying, the transitional and detox period might be tough. Especially in the first few days, you will notice a lot more sweat and stronger body odour. Pick the time for your detox wisely. Make sure you are not having any important meetings, like job interviews or similar during the first couple of days. These would just put pressure on you and your detox and transition to healthy deodorant might fail as a result.

2. Actively work with your body

As soon as you stop using conventional deodorant your pit detox will start. To give your body a chance to release the build-up of toxins and regulate the bacteria, you should probably refrain from using any deodorant at all for a couple of days. Once you notice that your body odour is getting fainter, you can start using the natural deodorant. However, there are ways in which you can actively support your armpit detox - not only in the first few days but on an ongoing basis:

Natural fibres

In order to reduce body odour, you should wear clothes made from natural fibres. Unlike synthetic fibres, natural materials like cotton don"t trap bad smells or harbour bad bacteria. Plus: they feel so much nicer against your skin! Note this is just for the first few days of the detox and is not needed once you have transitioned to natural deodorant.

Drying after your shower or bath

It"s no secret that bacteria grow quickly in damp and warm environments, after all, that is why your armpits are so popular with all sorts of bacteria, especially on warm and sweaty days. Therefore it is important to dry off really well after your shower or bath. This will not only ensure that bacteria isn't getting too comfortable but will also make sure the skin on your pits is perfectly prepared for your new organic deodorant to be applied.

Food & drink

Everything you eat and drink has a direct impact on your body and health. This means your food also impacts your body odour. In general, a clean, organic and healthy diet without (or very little) caffeine, alcohol, meat and fried food contributes to a more neutral body odour.

As important as food, is of course drink and I don't mean fancy alcoholic cocktails, juices or smoothies - I am talking about plain water. Water is one of the most important things for your body. Staying hydrated by drinking 2 to 3 litres of water every day helps your body to rid itself of toxins on a day to day basis, which in turn helps to prevent smelly pits.

3. Using natural deodorant

At Baba Me we believe in only selling products that we use ourselves and that really work, this also includes our deodorant range. When you order one of the Warrior Botanicals Deodorant Creams you receive a product that is not just completely natural, organic, environmentally friendly and made with love in Ireland, but also tried and tested thoroughly!

How the Warrior Botanicals Deodorant Cream works

Reidin, the founder of Warrior Botanicals is making all her products herself and in small batches in West Cork, Ireland. The deodorant creams are a blend of shea butter, coconut oil, arrowroot powder, baking soda and essential oils or plant extracts. All these ingredients work together with your body as supposed to just covering up bad odours. This means: the more you sweat, the more the ingredients are activated and you will be kept dry and smell delicious.

How to apply the Warrior Botanical Deodorant Cream

It is recommended that you apply the deodorant cream after showering or washing your armpits (remember to dry well afterwards). Take a pea-sized amount on your finger and gently massage it into your skin. One application will last for up to 24 hours, which means one tub will last a lot longer than most conventional deodorants. In fact, most people get between 2 and 4 months use out of it.

Which scent is right for me?

If your skin is dry and absorbs oil well, you will probably find that the Lavender Geranium or the Rosemary and Cedarwood deodorant cream will work best for you. If you find that your underarms are generally very sweaty, try the Coconut & Vanilla Deodorant, which has the added benefit of the anti-bacterial qualities of freshly ground cloves. The Coconut Deodorant Cream is also free from essential oils and is therefore recommended to be used during pregnancy or when breastfeeding. In terms of men's deodorant, our male customers swear by the scent of Rosemary and Cedarwood.

Did you know? The Warrior Botanicals Deodorant Creams are also available in small travel tubs so perfect for giving it a go yourself or for travelling!
