What Are the Healthiest Snacks to Buy

Snacks That Are Actually Healthy

While there is no real need to snack between meals if you have a good diet we all know there are times when you need a little something to keep you going and give you an energy boost, especially when you are out and about. If you have children the likelihood is you carry around a bag of snacks to prevent hunger turning to tears and make sure you have healthy options and aren’t caught short having to buy expensive junk food.

Children are also far more likely to graze throughout the day than eat big meals. Natural snacks that are nutrient dense are a great way of ensuring children, and adults, are getting the energy and nutrients they need, keeping them focused throughout the day. Children will generally need to eat 3 meals a day and have two snacks between meals. So having a supply of healthy natural snacks is vital.

There are lots of healthy snacks you can make at home. But it’s also really handy to have some ready made natural snacks on hand to take out with you and to make sure you don’t end up reaching for sugary junk food that will satisfy momentarily but lead to a crash later on.

Our Top 5 Snacks That Are Healthy

We have a great range of natural snacks that are delicious and perfect for keeping in the cupboard. We’ve tried to make sure snacks are nutritious as well as tasty, choosing whole food snacks over refined carbohydrates, although there are a few sweet treats in there as well for times when indulgence wins out over being healthy.

Here are some of our favourites:

  • Proper Corn popcorn. This natural snack made from whole corn is the perfect alternative to crisps for lunch boxes and picnics, a great snack, and ideal for movie night. Made with whole corn and a little oil it is high in fibre, vegan and gluten free.
  • Proper Corn lentil Chips. As well as proper popcorn, Proper Corn also makes really delicious lentil chips. These are another great natural snack and a perfect alternative to crisps. Packed full of protein thanks to the lentils, they are low in calories and full of flavour. Again they are both vegan and gluten free.
  • Shore Seaweed Chips. Another great alternative to crisps that are much more nutrient dense and pack a decent protein punch, these quinoa and seaweed chips are perfect for satisfying your savoury snack cravings.
  • Bear Fruit Snacks. When your little ones are after something sweet you can’t go wrong with Bear fruit snacks. Made with pure fruit and veg they have no added sugar or other nasties and are super handy for keeping in your bag where an actual piece of fruit may get battered and bruised.
  • Olives. Olives are a delicious snack packed full of healthy oils and antioxidants and they fill you up quickly making them excellent for snacking on the go. We love the snack pouches which provide perfect portion control and are easy to carry with you without worrying about mess.
